Trekking on Mount Cameroon...a great experience!
It was challenging, strenuous, difficult and exciting and I'm still trying to register it all in my brain; it seems like a whirlwind. We did a three day trek that took us through farm land, rainforest, savannah, craters and old lava flows, reaching the summit on Friday morning at 11:45. A series of designated resting points at various huts and shaded areas kept us re-fueled and rested.

Our second day proved to be the most difficult - leaving Hut 2 (our camping spot the first night) at an elevation of 2,860 meters, we climbed to the summit (4,095 meters). About 20 minutes on top is all we could spare, the wind was strong and we still had 5 hours walking to get to the next camp. We then descended to 2,440 meters to Mann Spring camp. It was quite a difference in elevation for just one day, needless to say we were exhausted. Our sleeping quarters at Mann Spring were straw huts lined with more straw on the ground. Despite the rugged appearance it was actually quite comfortable, just a little damp and humid since we were on the edge of the forest.

The third day we re-entered the forest, this time with a larger, more dense canopy and discovered the difficulties of keeping a steady foothold while trying to sightsee. Many trips and stumbles later, we made it to the village of Bokwango - our ending point, covering 45 km in all.
