So, it seems things have a way of working out...
After the sheep stealing fiasco, Issa decided not to 'press charges' and told the guy its up to him to change if he wants. They said he was pretty humilated and didn't want to show his face anywhere in the village. He must not have learned a big enough lesson and took advantage of Issa's kindness because a couple days later he got caught stealing from the Lamido!
The Lamido is the regional chief and in charge of all the small village chiefs like ours in Djalingo. He has a house in several villages including Djalingo. Because he's not there all the time he has guardians watching the house. Apparently our thief got caught climbing over the compound wall with a rug from the Lamido's living room! This is not a situation you want to be in.
I don't care much for the Lamido as he has been on several human rights watch lists and has a bad reputation but I do kind of feel sorry for our thief. If he only had listened to Issa...now it looks like he created more trouble for himself and will certainly get a worse punishment than if Issa had pressed charges. Our thief will probably become the Lamido's slave at the very least.
